Scholarship
The Black Book Empowerment Scholarship is dedicated to uplifting and empowering Black individuals pursuing careers in fields where Black professionals have historically been underrepresented. We aim to support aspiring students and tradespeople who demonstrate passion, drive, and a commitment to making a difference within their communities and industries. This year, we’re thrilled to award $50,000 across 10 scholarships, each valued at $5,000.

Scholarship Categories:
Each scholarship is geared towards students or individuals interested in fields critical to our communities. The categories are:
- Medicine – For those pursuing a career in the medical field, including nursing, pre-med, and other healthcare specialties.
- Engineering – Open to students in all branches of engineering, including civil, mechanical, electrical, and environmental.
- Law – For aspiring lawyers, paralegals, and others aiming to make an impact in the legal field.
- Construction/Home Inspection – Supporting individuals looking to pursue or advance in construction, building inspection, and related fields.
- HVAC – For those training in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning to bring technical expertise to their communities.
- Welding/Plumbing – Available for future welders, plumbers, and skilled tradespeople who want to excel in these essential industries.
- Barbershop/Beauty – For those pursuing a career in barbering, hairstyling, cosmetology, and beauty-related fields.
Scholarship Details:
- Award Amount: $5,000 each, totaling $50,000 in scholarships.
- Number of Scholarships: 10 scholarships will be awarded, with a minimum of one scholarship per category.
- Total Fundraising Goal: $75,000, with the additional funds directed to grow the scholarship fund for future awards.
Each recipient will receive both financial support and acknowledgment as part of a broader movement to empower Black excellence. Through these scholarships, Black Book Houston aims to foster a legacy of opportunity and change in industries where representation matters most.
Application Details:
- Open to U.S.-based Black students and tradespeople with a demonstrated interest in one of the specified fields.
- Application includes an essay, transcript (if applicable), and one reference letter.
- Scholarship winners will be announced at the Black Book Houston Empowerment Gala.
